South of the Toubkal and the border between the chain of the High Atlas and Anti Atlas sits this sacred volcanic mountain, difficult to reach on a large cliff. Every year with the harvest of almonds and saffron the inhabitants of the neighboring valleys sacrifice animals (sheep and goats), as a way of thanking the Great God for a future rich agricultural season, with the hope of having the heavy rain on time. Between the saffron fields (the only place in Morocco where this treasure grows, making this region the only area of saffron production and export), we pass through beautiful Berber villages which do not yet know civilization and azibs, sheep in the mountains that are home to hundreds of animals come to find enough to eat during the summer period just after the snow melts from May to late September.
